My point is, with the LED lights the amp draw is minimal. We did not have a winch on it so it did not have that kind of draw on the battery. (After I got it completed, it was out of my hands and left to the Aux unit commander who didn't know better) Left sitting in unheated storage over the winter and charged up in the spring. Never hooked up to a charger and started all summer when needed. The Aux unit used it at the county fair and on the streets during the annual "cruise night" It would run for hours at a time, then get stuffed back into the ambulance. It was and still is as far as I know stored in the Auxiliary unit's converted ambulance. Striping and signage and it looked pretty good at the end. There were 6 or 8 Lights on both front and back. Although LEDs were not that common at the time, we were able to find individual red and blue LED lights and painted it black and white. The Chief at the the time gave me the task of "make it look like a squad car". About 10 or 12 years before I retired, my department took possession of a Honda foreman 400 that was seized from a farmer who was growing weed in his cornfields. Simple to install – connect to starting battery, auxiliary battery and ground. This extends the life of expensive charging components. It reduces the load on the charging system by not connecting the auxiliary battery until the primary battery is charged to 13.2V.It allows bi-directional charging from the alternator or from shore power.
There are no efficiency losses due to diodes.Smaller and lighter than traditional isolators.Prevents loads on auxiliary battery from draining the starting battery, a Smart Isolator is more flexible than traditional Battery Isolators:
